The Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve is a quarter-turn valve, designed for use in oil, chemical, water transfer, food processing, pharmaceutical, wastewater management, and many other industries. The Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve is designed to be installed on pipe flanges, and is built with a 316 stainless steel body for optimal chemical & corrosion resistance. Always be sure to verify chemical resistance with transfer medium.
The Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve “Butterfly” is a metal disc that is the heart of the valve. This disc sits in the center of the valve, and can be opened for nearly unrestricted flow, or may be set incrementally to restrict the flow through the pipe. Unlike a ball valve, the Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve always causes a pressure decrease, due to the disc always being within the medium flow.
A Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve is designed with uni-directional fluid flow in mind. The seal on a Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve is designed to hold tightly, preventing a bi-directional pressure differential to prevent backflow in pressure sensitive systems, that are made for unidirectional flow. The Stainless Wafer Style Butterfly Valve is specially machined and uses tight fitting gaskets to maintain a tight seal.
Butterfly valves are a very common and popular choice in many industries. Wafer Style Butterfly Valves are popular for cases for dealing with petroleum due to the simplicity of installation and the lower price point than ball valves of comparable size. Note: piping with butterfly valves cannot be “pigged”. Pigging is the practice of placing a cleaning or inspection device into the pipe, and allow it to work while the pipe flow is still active.
Caution: All 2000 series valves must be installed in the partial open position. Installing in the full closed position may damage the seat during start up and void any warranties.
