The Lug Style Butterfly Valve “Butterfly” is a metal disc that is the heart of the valve. This disc sits in the center of the valve, and can be opened for nearly unrestricted flow, or may be set incrementally to restrict the flow through the pipe. Unlike a ball valve, the Lug Style Butterfly Valve always causes a pressure decrease, due to the disc always being within the medium flow.
The Lug Style Butterfly Valve is designed with a similar concept to a 3 piece ball valve, allowing one side of the line to be removed without effecting the other end. This is possible thanks to the Lug Style Butterfly Valve using threaded inserts and dual lugs. With this advantage, you don’t need to shut down the system for maintenance, something that is impossible with wafer style valves.
Butterfly valves are a very common and popular choice in many industries. Lug Style Butterfly Valves are popular for cases for dealing with petroleum due to the simplicity of installation and the lower price point than ball valves of comparable size. Note: piping with butterfly valves cannot be “pigged”. Pigging is the practice of placing a cleaning or inspection device into the pipe, and allow it to work while the pipe flow is still active.
Caution: All 1000 series valves must be installed in the partial open position. Installing in the full closed position may damage the seat during start up and void any warranties.

EPDM Seat Temp. Range | -30°C~+140°C |
Note | Seat materials are capable of withstanding lower temperatures without damage. However, the elastomer becomes hard and torques in- crease. Some flow media may further restrict the published temperature limits and/or significantly reduce seat life. |
